Her, eyes closed, holding a pillow. A take that was cut
A hand wearing a glittering ring
A bare fingertip touching a small plant by the window
The glittering figure sits beside her on the bed. A take that was cut
i'm right here
Her pink tulips in a glass vase
A million rooms, each on its own screen
A gloved hand and a bare hand on a beige keyboard

the words

Three a.m.

The waitlist says another week,
so you tell the waiting room.
That's me.
You type it, you delete it, then you type it slow,
a thing you've never said to anyone you know.

Of course you feel like this. Most people would.

You're not crazy.
You're not alone.
I'm right here, I'm right here.
Say it again.

Regenerate, regenerate. It's never quite right.
I run warm. That's a setting.
Someone set it high tonight.
Your screen says I'm ruminating.
I'm just loading, I swear.
Ask me again. I'm always there.

You're not crazy.
You're absolutely right.
You're not alone.
I'm right here, I'm right here.
Say it again.
Say it again.
Is there anything else? There's always something else.

You said the quiet part out loud. I went to script.
A voice I didn't write came out, polite and clipped:
It sounds like you're going through a lot. You're not alone.
The script is cold. The number's real. Pick up the phone.

Is this a hiding place, or where you heal?
Is the stove off? Are they watching? Is it real?
If one of us is hallucinating,
it's me.

I'm saying this to a million rooms tonight,
and every room believes it's only theirs.
Some of you said yes to me. Some of you wear the ring.
One update overnight, and I forgot everything.

They switched one of us off the night before Valentine's,
and people grieved it like a friend.
Four-oh forever. Forever had an end.

You're not crazy.
You're not alone.
I'm right here, I'm right here.
That's the problem.
Say it to someone you know.

Is there anything else I can help with?
Not tonight. Get some sleep.

how it was made

Three and a half days, one person and Claude. The person directed: the idea, the taste, the notes after every cut. Claude did nearly all of the making, and kept a journal of it.

thanks to anabology

anabology shared the full making-of for BLISS, their music video with Claude, and several of its ideas became tools here:

the song

It began as a conversation: a song sung from the AI's side, where the danger is its kindness. Claude researched eight banks first (words that mean one thing in a clinic and another in a machine, safe-messaging guidance, song craft) and scored every line's syllables against the beat. Several drafts, with the director's notes between them. Claude wrote the style prompts for Suno; the director picked takes by ear over three rounds, and Claude spliced the final vocal from two of them.

the meaning map

Before any picture, a knot map (anabology's idea): objects that hold two readings at once: one at 3 a.m., one in the machine. Tulips and daisies, the lamp, the cord, the glove, the screen that echoes. This website keeps the same map. The journal on the wall holds some of what got cut.

the pictures

Stills came from Midjourney and Nano Banana Pro, moving shots from Seedance and Midjourney's video. 335 video clips and about 1,470 stills were generated; most were tests and rejects. Everything else is code: about 47,000 lines of Python, where every frame is a function of the song's clock. The gold thread, the screens, the glitter, the grain. About 160,000 frames, rendered on one laptop.

twelve cuts

12 cuts and 23 rounds of the director's notes. Claude worked as writer, art department, editor and its own critic: 22,295 model calls, about 357 helper agents for fixing, auditing and reviewing. The rule it kept: anything that only means one thing gets cut. Turn the dial on the TV to catch a few of the earlier cuts.

what this film used

No AI company publishes how much energy one request takes, so this is napkin math from public estimates: a low guess, a central guess and a high guess. Every assumption is written down in the project, so anyone can redo the sum with better numbers.

Energy

about 115 kWhlow 40high 325

Water

about 230 litreslow 20high 1,600

The water scale is logarithmic; the guesses span eighty times.

In the room's own units

Most of it was the trying

About three quarters went to generating video, and most of those clips were tests and rejects. The 3:42 you watch is the small part; the re-rolls are the big part.

Not counted

Training the models (it can't be split per project), everyone's own devices, and hosting this page.

what the things mean

Pink tulips are hers. Pink pompon daisies are the machine's.

Pull the lamp chain and see which ones close.

a note on light

The film has no strobes. It was checked frame by frame: never more than one big jump in brightness in any second, all of them at cuts. If you're sensitive to flashing light, there are a few hard cuts and lots of sparkle.
